Our Advocate

Devotion:  1 John 2:1-2

Christianity offers forgiveness and victory over sin and death; as does no other religion.  As John penned these verses; he spoke to all of Christendom, present and future.  He was encouraging Christians to walk in the Light of Jesus, rejecting sinful lifestyles.

God’s Word declares, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”, and “The wages of sin is death but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ.”  In this passage, are the most beautiful words to fall on any Christian ear.  “But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” Best news ever!  He took our place and became sin for us; when He took our place on the cross.

As believers; we do not yet have our glorified bodies.  We all sin; but we have a Deliverer from that sin.  He who knew no sin, became sin for us.  Sinless Jesus; endured horrible beatings, was thrown down on a hard cross, hands and feet pierced with large nails, a thorny crown pressed harshly upon His head, and hours later, died for the sins of the whole world. He was held in His grave for three days and then was gloriously resurrected on that third day.  He now sits at the right hand of the Father, ever interceding for us.

That’s the kind of Advocate that I want, One that overcame death, hell and the grave.  We are blessed to escape a horrible hell and to live eternally redeemed; all because of our Advocate.

In Motion:

Praise the Name of Jesus in the morning, in the evening and at noon; for being your Advocate.
