Deterred

Standard

Devotion: Hosea 10:12

What deters you?  This thing; albeit food, entertainment, social media or your favorite hobby; keeps you from God.  We use our deterrents as an excuse for “not enough time.”  Pleasure takes the place of our quiet times, our Sabbath days, our service to our fellow man.  We frequently choose “fun” over a spiritual act of service.

Selfless service flows out from a heart that loves the Lord more than ourselves.  He created us for His own good pleasure and nothing pleases Him more when we lay ourselves down, for His honor and glory.  It requires precious time and sacrifice but the greater blessing comes when we choose Him.

Our flesh demands to be satisfied.  Satisfaction means different things to different people. It largely depends upon your heritage. Some are materially rich and even the rich have varying degrees of wealth.  Jesus said the poor you will have with you always. Poor in America is different from poor in Africa.  The poorest Christians in Africa have amazing joy.  Some of the richest Christians in America; are still not satisfied.  So what deters us from joy unspeakable?

Lisa Whittle has inspired me through her book, “I Want God”, to think on these things. If you want revival for your soul; I highly recommend you get this book and read it sooner than later.

We who are the bride of Christ; need to want God, more than any other thing in this world.  This world is passing away and we need to be about our Father’s business.

Prayer In Motion:

Oh God, convict our hearts of everything that keeps us from You.  Forgive us for the little time we give to You and call it sacrifice.  Forgive us for our lack of service to You, even when it costs us our time.  Deter us from any and all the things that keep us from You.  In Jesus Name we pray.  Amen
