The Container

Devotion:  Acts 20:28

My good friend David Benham has declared the church, God’s container. He and his twin brother, Jason are training all the children and adults who listen to their messages, giving the people, the ability to recognize the church, as the bride of Christ, not just the meeting place where Christians gather.  It’s a great word picture for any believer who has ears to hear the truth of God’s Word.  The place we gather; is only the container in which we meet, to worship the Lord with music, prayer and hearing the preaching of His Word.

I want you to examine your container, the place you call your church home.  God tells us to “Forsake not the assembling of ourselves, as is the habit of some.”  It is the place you go to dive deeper into God’s Word, in order to be strengthened and equipped to do the daily life God has ordained for you.

The next time you gather with your brothers and sisters in Christ; look around at the body of Christ.  See if you can discern who is employing their spiritual gifts, in order to build up the body of Christ.  This is not for the purpose of judgement but for the purpose of prayer and edification.  Those who dwell within your container need to be encouraged and built up in their most holy faith.

Much of the Christian church in our world, is persecuted.. Believers are losing their lives for the cause of Christ.  It is the time we live in and it will not be long until it happens in our nation.  I know the Benhams have been persecuted for their stand against abortion, homosexuality and stood up for the righteousness of Christ.  After having done all; they continue to stand and see the salvation of the Lord.

Prayer in Motion:

Pray for the Benhams, as they continue to stand for the righteousness of Christ our Lord.  May we pray continually for those who are unashamedly preaching and teaching the truth of God’s Word.  God help us to realize our church buildings are just the container for the body of Christ.  Help us to go out to the world and be the church You intended for us to be.  In Jesus Name, Amen.
