Some preachers declare the meaning of cheerful giving in this passage, to mean hilarious giving; that is giving with uncontainable joy. Cheerful giving doesn’t hold back. It goes above and beyond the tithe; above and beyond the least expected; above and beyond the call of duty. We can give monetarily, or through acts of service, to those who truly need it and even to those who don’t want it.
Cheerful giving shines through one’s countenance, as well as their actions and reactions. If we give as unto the Lord, He always gives back, “pressed down, shaken together and running over.” It happens every time. I’ve experienced it and so have you. It may or may not be in dollars and cents, however it can be in spiritual blessing, an answered prayer, or possibly an absolute miracle. God longs to give us what we have need of, much of what we want and a lot of what we desire. When He says He will give us the desires of our heart, I believe He means when our desires line up with His.
The Lord’s mercies are new every single morning and great is His faithfulness. He promised to never leave us nor forsake us. He gave His life in place of ours. Even though He sweat drops of blood, He went to the cross willingly, in obedience to His Father. Freely He gave, so that we could freely receive salvation.
Whether we are giving our tithes and offerings or performing our job or ministry, we should do it cheerfully, as unto the Lord.
Prayer In Motion:
Lord, may I give as unto You, no matter what I am doing. I want to be a cheerful giver.
