Our Refuge and Strength

Devotion:  Psalm 46:1-10

The thunderous roar of beautiful Niagra Falls, echoes in the deepest recesses of my mind.  We boarded the “Maid of the Mist”, and headed right to the base of the “Thundering Mist”. Human voices could not be heard above its roar.  It brought me to worship the Lord, who created this amazing ravenous flow of water,

When the world thunders as loudly as Niagra Falls; we can choose to be distracted by it’s noise or be brought to worship. This passage declares God as our refuge and strength and a very present help in trouble.  We have nothing to fear, even if the waters roar and the mountains shake.

When we behold the works of the Lord, it can bring us a quiet still of holy hush and reverence; even amidst the loudest of the world’s noise.  For young mothers, it might be a baby who is loudly protesting His much needed sleep.  For a builder of houses, it might be the noise of his own buzz saw, cutting through the needed wood.  For the police officer, it’s the loudness of His car’s siren, as he hurries to intervene, on behalf of the victim.  God wants to speak and will be heard above all the  earth’s current clamor.

How can we “Be still and know that He is God”, in the middle of so much noise?

*  Pray to the One who is waiting to hear your voice.

*  Take time to read His Word.

*  Hold tightly to the promises He has spoken

Prayer in Motion:

Lord, help me to live like You are my refuge and strength.
