God tells us in His Word; “Forsake not the assembling of ourselves together as is the habit of some.” And yet, churched people are called everything from hypocrites to plastic. So why is it important to remain? In church? We are called “the body of Christ.” We are family because of Christ; or supposed to be anyway. So when did being a “church lady,” or “church man,” become a bad thing?
Pastors and their congregations are deciding to change the names of their churches. Why? To be relevant? Are the names of our churches offensive? We do all things for the cause of Christ and if changing the name of the church will bring people in; then so be it. It’s hard for me to believe, that changing the name of a church, would be pivotal in bringing the people in.
Christ is the head of the church and the pastor falls under our Lord. As the pastor leads, so goes the congregation. Under the direction of the Holy Spirit, the pastor is to preach, lead and guide his flock of people. He has elders or deacons that pray with and for him, in regards to his implementation of the works of the church body. A churches’ success; fully depends upon the unity of that body.
All over the world, there are mega churches, medium sized churches, small churches and house churches; that meet on the Sabbath Day. The size doesn’t matter. The doctrine matters. Church should be Biblically sound. Everything else is purely preference; the music style, the preaching/teaching style, the dress code or lack thereof. All of that is preference. It doesn’t change God’s Word one iota.
We are God’s people and we need each other. We are strengthened and built up in our most holy faith; when we gather together as the church. We are admonished and encouraged by God’s Word. I beg you, please do not forsake the assembling of yourselves together with other believers. My pastor once said, “If you leave the ship, you will be left without a paddle.” You can only swim for so long and then you start to sink. Find a house of worship where you can be held accountable and loved on. You need the church and the church needs you.
Prayer in Motion:
Lord, may I honor You by gathering with other believers on Your day. We are Christians first, however we should be church people as well. No matter the cost, may we gather with Your people; called by Your Name, on the Lord’s day. In Jesus Name. Amen.
