Devotion:  Esther 4:15-16, Esther 5:4,7, Esther 7:1,3-4

Serious trouble was brewing for the Jews in the Medo-Persian empire.  There is no mention of God in this Old Testament book, however, the theme is definitely about the preservation and deliverance of God’s people.

Esther learns of wicked Haman’s plot to destroy the whole Jewish race. Although deeply distressed by the demise of her beloved Jewish people, she began a plan of action.  The hand of God is all over Esther, as she began to formulate an organized way of escape from the evil plans of wicked Haman.

Esther’s first step was to send a messenger to Mordecai to obtain the correct information.  She wanted to hear straight from Mordecai, exactly what had taken place. He spared no details as he sent a copy of the written decree, for the destruction of the Jews.

Esther being a woman of reason; knew she was not allowed to go in to the king, unless he summonsed her.  Mordecai said to Esther, “If you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish.  Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a times as this?”

Queen Esther’s first line of defense was to ask her people to fast for her. Then she marched herself right into the King’s presence, sending word to Mordeicai, “If I perish, I perish.” Esther planned her words carefully as she invited the king and Haman to a banquet.  Maybe Esther knew the way to her King’s heart, was through his stomach.  When the king asked her what she wanted, she invited Haman and the King to a second banquet.

The plot quickly unfolds for Haman and the Jews.  Read chapters 6-7 to get the details.  God says “Vengance is Mine, I will repay.”  At the last banquet, Esther poured out the whole truth regarding Haman’s evil intent, to have the Jews annihilated and destroyed.  This woman orchestrated the redemption of the Jews by her well organized plan.  The statement is true; ‘If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.”

Prayer in Motion:

God, please help me to stay organized in my thoughts and plans, so that I might accomplish Your great purpose and plan. In Jesus Name. Amen
