Devotion: Revelation 7:2-3

There is a commercial that asks the question: “What’s in your wallet?”  It’s promoting a brand of insurance protection, indicating that you are protected and safe if you are a card carrying member.  Many people wear tatoos on their bodies. Although I don’t have one; I love seeing Christ’s symbols or scripture on someone’s wrist, indicating that they are a follower of Christ.

In Revelation 6: John shares his vision of the four angels standing in the four corners of the earth. They hold back the winds of judgment to come; that will blow destruction in the land and the sea, from every direction.  This is the time God will judge all who refuse to believe and honor Him.  No place on earth will escape God’s judgment.

As you move on to Revelation 7; the focus shifts dramatically to the security of the faithful.  The angel from the east came with orders from God the Father; to protect His servants.  He brings “the seal of the living God” to protect God’s people.  This angel puts God’s seal on the foreheads of His servants to stamp them with God’s authority, ownership and unchangeable purposes.

The seal was the name of the Father and the name of the Lamb. Jesus promises His name is ” a fortified tower, the righteous run to it and are safe.”  Believers in Christ, are now marked or sealed by God’s Holy Spirit.  The seal in Revelation 7 irrevocably protects God’s servants from His terrible judgments that will fall on all who do not love God.

If you have invited Jesus into your heart, you are the focus of God’s love and protection.  You will not receive the judgment you deserve.  Jesus promised, “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.’  You need not fear.  You are protected.

Prayer in Motion:

Lord, I do not fear of what is to come because You are my protector and defender.  Thank You Lord that my confidence is in You both now and forever.  In Jesus Name.  Amen
