Men probably don’t do this; put on and take off what they will be wearing that day, before they decide which outfit works. Women do it all the time. We have so many choices; so we go shopping in our closets, on a daily basis. My friend Shari Brendel has written a book: Help me Lord, I Have Nothing to Wear. It’s an excellent book to help women know what colors and styles of clothing they should be wearing to make them look their best.
In like fashion; God tells us to put off our old self. We must be intentional to put off our former manner of life. Why? When you invite Jesus into your life; you are a new creature. Your life and witness should no longer resemble your former conduct. The people in your world should notice a concerted difference in your old man and new man.
Choose to put on your new self; so that you resemble your new master. Just as name brands indicate their creator; so should you reflect the One whose image you bear.
According to Leviticus 19:2 “We are to be holy as God is holy.” Most of us want to be comfortable from the top of our heads to the bottom of our feet. This scripture is not just talking about the apparel you wear on a daily basis. You are to be walking in truth instead of the ratty old ways of the world. Being comfortable and being holy aren’t necessarily synonymous. You need to “forsake the appearance of evil.”
So put off your old clothes of comfort and put on your new clothes of holiness and righteousness. Clad in your new clothes; go out and make a difference to the world.
Prayer in Motion:
Oh Lord God, today I choose to put on the clothes You made for me to wear. I want the world to recognize I am different, set apart, to bring You honor and glory and praise. Jesus, give me daily wisdom to put on my new self. In Jesus Name. Amen
