Loving With Your Mind

Standard

Devotion: Mark 12:30-31

Love people the way Christ loves them.  Is it even possible? How do we love the Lord?  with our whole heart, our whole mind and all of our strength. Is it possible to love people the same way?  Let’s investigate God’s Word.

The last part of that scripture says, “and your neighbor as yourself.”  Who is your neighbor?  It’s all the people in your sphere of influence.

I contend; if you love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength; you make up your mind to love people and the heart/soul will follow.  It’s a choice.

You can hate someone’s sin and still choose to love the person. The sin is against you but it’s an even greater sin against the Lord.   Loving a difficult person is a hard thing; however, it’s what God requires of His children.

Fill in the following blanks with your difficult person’s name.

Can you look at ______________ through the suffering Savior? As you recall; He was beaten almost to death, nails were pounded into His hands and feet, and a crown of thorns was shoved upon his head.  Jesus did that for you; as well as __________________.  He wants you to love them with your mind, until your heart catches up.   It’s a decision only you can make.  However, it’s an act of obedience to the Lord your God.  Keep on loving them with your mind; until your heart catches up.

Prayer in Motion:

Lord, I come to You this morning; asking for forgiveness, for the sin of not loving with my mind.  Today I declare to You that I will love ___________________ with my mind until my heart catches up.  I want to love ____________________the way You love me.  Blessed be the Name of the Lord my God.  It’s in Your Name I offer up this prayer.  Amen
