To Be Like God

Devotion:  Philippians 2:6-7

Let me ask you a question. My son would say, “Mom, you just did.”  Who was the highest of the angels?  Of course we know him to be Lucifer.  In Isaiah 14; he said, “I will be like the Most High.”  Lucifer; a.k.a. Satan, desperately wanted to be equal with God. He tried to be the fourth person of the Trinity, without success.

Jesus didn’t need to rip it away from God.  He is equal with God. He has always been with God; but was willing to let go of His God rights.  According to verse 6;  He did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped. Even though Christ came through the womb of virgin Mary; He never denied His deity.

He was in the beginning with the Father and is no less than the Father.  Remember in Genesis when God said, “Let us make man in our image.”  The “us” is referring to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Yesterday; we talked of the Incarnation of Jesus, but I wanted to go a little deeper.  According to Verse 6 of Philippians 2; He did not consider it robbery to be equal with God.  Jesus knew He was the second Person in the Trinity.  He chose to “make Himself of no reputation.”

Christ took on the form of a bondservant and                                              came in the likeness of men.

Jesus Christ is God and He is Lord.  We are to emulate our Lord Jesus, to let Christ’s mind be in us.  Our earnest desire is to be Christ like but we can never be equal to or the same as our Lord and our God.  We are fully man; however, we can never be fully God.

Satan desired to be worshipped like God.  We were created to worship Him, not to be worshipped.

Prayer in Motion:

Lord God, I desire to be Christ-like, to display the fruit of Your Holy Spirit, not for my glory but for Yours.  May I be filled with Your Spirit, for Your honor and glory.  In Jesus Name.  Amen
