Extending the Olive Branch

Standard

Devotion:  Psalm 34:14

The expression “extending the Olive Branch” has been around for a very long time.  Do you make a practice of extending “The Olive Branch?”  Peace is the third attribute of the fruit of the Spirit.

It means offering peace and to make up or patch up relations between hostile persons or countries. It may possibly come from the fact that after God flooded the earth and Noah floated about in the Ark, the first sign of resumption of life on earth; was when a dove landed on the ark with an olive branch in its beak.

God extended the Olive Branch to Noah and his family; as the flood waters dried up and the ark rested on top of Mount Ararat. They were to go and replenish the earth.  Another chance.  A fresh start.  It was time to rebuild relationships with each other; as well as with the Lord God.

The Lord God asked man to sacrifice goats and bulls; to put them on an altar, for the price of their sins.  That was God’s Olive Branch for man; until He sent His Son Jesus. Christ became the Olive Branch for all who came after His crucifixion and resurrection.  He offered His own perfect life; as a substitute for our sinful lives.  I will never get over it as long as I live.

If you choose to offer peace to someone who’s trying to stir up strife in your private world; you extend an Olive Branch.  You will be Christ like.  You will immolate Christ likeness to those who need to know Him.

Prayer in Motion:

Lord Jesus, thank You for being the Olive Branch for me.  Oh God, how I want to be an Olive Branch, to those you have given me.  May I extend an Olive Branch to the lost and the saved exactly when they need it most.  In Jesus Name.  Amen
