Heroes

Devotion:   Hebrews 12:1-2

Human beings tend to be in awe of those who make great plays in the sports arena.  We tend to revere the great athletes.  We all have our heroes; those who have saved a team, saved a nation or saved people from certain death.

Heroes come in all shapes and sizes.  They are honored for what man considers to be a heroic feat.  You know what’s interesting?  The same group of people who bestow honor and glory to the hero; will turn around and slam those same heroes with their words of disapproval.

Heroes have a hard time holding onto their claim to fame.

There is always someone whom the masses will declare heroic. That is why we must keep our eyes on Jesus.  Heroes of the faith are listed in Hebrews 11.  You will enjoy re-reading that passage before this day is through.  God build us up in our most holy faith; as He reminds us of these great men and women of faith.

If you are going to be remembered for something; why not your faith?  We live in trying times.  Some of you are being tested even now.  How  can we exhibit faith to a watching world; if we are never tested?  Oh how I long for you and me to come forth as pure gold; for Christ’s sake.

“When we are weak, then He is strong.  His strength is perfect when our strength is gone.  He’ll carry us when we can’t carry one.  Raise in His power; the weak become strong.”

Prayer in Motion:

Oh God, I commit my life and times into Your hands.  You are my only hero.  Jesus, You are at the right hand of the Father; ever interceding for me.  “I need You now, more than yesterday. I need you now, more than words can say.  I need You now.  More than the air I breathe, more than the next heart beat..”  In Jesus Name.  Amen
