We’ve all heard one or possibly several. What am I talking about? A sermon that will change your life. This sermon came to the house of Cornelius, a Gentile.
Peter began by saying; God shows no partiality. He accepts every nation, every tribe, every people group who fears Him, and do works of righteousness. God gave the gospel to the Jew first and then lovingly; He grafted in those of us who are Gentiles.
Cornelius’ family had heard about Jesus but had not as yet accepted Him as their Savior. They knew the Word had begun in Galilee and had spread throughout Judea. Through many witnesses they had heard about John’s baptism of Jesus and how the Holy Spirit had descended upon Him like a dove. This public display of God’s anointing upon His only begotten Son, spread like wildfire.
Peter was a witness of all these things. When Jesus declared He would be crucified; Peter had said NO, this would never happen to his Lord. Later, when asked if he knew Jesus; this same Peter had denied his Lord three times.
Post resurrection; this same Peter, was now boldly preaching the Good News of the gospel of Jesus Christ. In his sermon to Cornelius’ family; he shared that with his own eyes he had seen Jesus nailed to a tree. Peter saw Him die and then three days later; witnessed an empty tomb.
The ears of this family perked up when Peter began to declare that He had eaten and drank with Jesus; after His resurrection. Now he had every ones’ attention. They were about to hear “life changing truth.”
A life changing sermon radically does just that. It changes the lives of those who hear it.
“…whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.” Sins forgiven? Oh my goodness; what happened next could never have happened except through the anointing and power of God’s Holy Spirit.
Verse 44: “While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word.” The gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles. Those who came with Peter were astonished when they witnessed these things.
Prayer in Motion:
Oh God, thank You for this life changing sermon that began to include the Gentiles. Thank You for loving the Gentiles enough to graft us in; so that we could have eternal life. I love You Lord. In Jesus Name. Amen
