What causes the ocean to always be in motion? Here’s what I found from a website called cdi.coastal.edu. “There are waves of all sizes and shapes rolling into the beach at any given time. If they’re not stopped by anything, waves can travel across entire ocean basins and so the waves at your beach might be from a storm half a world away. The most familiar ocean waves are caused by the wind. These are wind-driven waves. Waves caused by underwater disturbances such as earthquakes, landslides, or volcanic eruptions are called tsunamis. These waves are typically tens to hundreds of kilometers long. The gravitational pull of the sun and moon on the earth causes the tides which are actually tidal waves”
Our lives are always in motion. We have our ups and downs as well as ins and outs. The winds of life can toss you to and fro. Many of you have experienced tsunamis by way of tragedy or disaster. Tidal waves; coming from half a world away, sweep you right off your feet, threatening to fill your lungs and steal your much needed air.
Our scripture today admonishes us to refuse to be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine. Many churches worldwide no longer use God’s Word as the anchor to be relied upon. They use this book and that book; this philosophy and that philosophy. It leaves people so confused and unequipped to handle the storms of life.
If this is true of your church, please excuse yourself and find a place where the teaching and preaching of God’s Word is preeminent. Jesus Christ is the Word made flesh. In the beginning was the Word. The Word was with God and the Word was God. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
You don’t have the choice of how or when life’s storm waves will come. You do have the choice of anchoring your soul to His Word.
Prayer in Motion:
Lord God, I choose to refuse to be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine. I choose to be anchored to Your Word. Your Word is truth. I will seek Your face through Your Words of life. In Jesus Name. Amen
