Shaking off the Dust

Standard

Devotion:  Acts 13:47-52

Houses are dusty.  Cars become dusty.  God is mindful we are made of dust.  He created us from the dust of the ground, so He understands when we stumble and fall.  He has made a way to scoop up our dusty selves, and renew a right spirit within us

This earth is full of dust because it’s full of people.  Only God holds our particles of dust together.  He formed us from the dust of the ground.  We came from dust and to dust we shall return.

When you read the verse that says, “They shook off the dust from their feet against them.”  You know it’s not a good thing.”  It means Paul and Barnabas were finished proclaiming the gospel to the Jews in that area.”  Done.  Never to return.

The saddest part for the Jews in Antioch was when they rejected the word of God and judged themselves unworthy of everlasting life; Paul and Barnabas turned to the Gentiles.  Good for us. Sad for them.

Paul and Barnabas were set as a light to the Gentiles that they should be for salvation to the ends of the earth.  We, the Gentiles are to be for salvation to the ends of the earth.  Oh happy day!  We will glorify the word of the Lord.  We are now grafted in.

“Jesus came unto His own, (the Jews) and they received Him not.”  They were looking for a majestic crown and a golden robe wearing king, to come riding in on a white horse. While He will do those things at the right time; He came to earth, born to a lowly servant girl, in a manger because there was no room for Him in a nice, clean inn.

Wrapped in dusty human flesh, the Word of God incarnate came for you and me.  Give out this most wonderful gospel until God tells you to shake the dust off your feet.  Jesus came to seek and to save that which was lost.  Don’t give up, until God says it’s time to move on and share these truths with someone else.

Prayer in Motion:

Lord Jesus, I bring my dusty self before You this day.  You knew me before the foundation of the earth.  God strengthen my heart, my mind, my spirit to testify the truth of Your gospel.  May I share it until You tell me to shake the dust off my feet and move on to someone else.  In Jesus Name.  Amen
