Our Own Spin

Standard

Devotion: Psalm 22:27

I can hear Bill O’Riley saying; “The spin stops here.”  But what spin?  Is the news media really looking out for us?  Of course he is no longer with Fox News.  I actually enjoyed his humor and straight forwardness, as he addressed what was going on in our world.   As some men in power do; the rules no longer applied to him.  Oh, Bill O-Riley; the spin really did stop with you.

When it comes to the Bible; John Eldredge says in his book Walking with God:

“The world we live in is a world at war.  Why is that so hard to accept?  What is this propensity, this inclination in us, to ignore the facts?  No- that’s not strong enough.  What is this insistence in us to see life the way we want to see it, as opposed to the way it is?”

Lisa Whittle states in her book Put Your Warrior Boots On, “Our insistence to accept our own spin is what harms us.”  When I listen to a preacher or teacher of God’s Word; I want to hear exactly what the Lord says from His Word. I truly don’t want to hear their supposition, especially on Bible doctrine.  It’s a great thing to hear how God is applying His Word to one’s life but not so great to hear their spin, especially when rabbits are being chased.

When you study or exegete the scriptures; you must study and give it out with the whole counsel of God.  You should never just pick out one verse and use it out of context.  That’s the reason teachers have a higher level of accountability before God.  We need to take that seriously.

Prayer in Motion:

Oh Lord our God; we want our spin to be Your spin.  The spin really does stop with You.  You are the Word.  Every Word is yes and amen. You always tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.  You are the way, the truth and the life and no man comes to the Father but by You.   May I never spin turbulent tales or chase the wrong rabbit trail and give the whole true counsel of God. In Jesus Name.  Amen
