Extravagant Love

Standard

Devotion: 2 Corinthians 5:14-19

It’s easy to give away extravagant love to those who love us back.  It’s hard to give it away to the those we have previously tried to avoid, those with whom we disagree.

How do you reflect Christ to those around you?  Again it’s easy to talk Christian-ese with your believing friends.  That’s an unknown language to non-believers.  We must show them, Christ, by loving them, thus earning the right to talk to them about His great love for them.

What are some ways you can help the joyless find their joy?  You can bless them with a gift or an act of kindness.  You can send them a card of encouragement.  You can call to check on them.  If they will not take your call, leave them an affirming message. You can e-mail them.

It’s the love of Christ that constrains us.  It is woven into our DNA to be kind to one another.  God’s Holy Spirit prompts us to pour out this fifth attribute of His Spirit.  God created all of us to have a passion for His glory.

When you come across that difficult person; you can either bring extravagant love and restoration or hatefulness and retribution.  The choice is totally up to you. If you are a believer in Christ, He longs for you to pour out the love that has been poured out on you dear one.

Prayer in Motion:

Lord Jesus, I thank You for the extravagant love You have poured out on me.  I know that You first loved me when I was unloveable and I’m asking that You will help me to love others the same way.  What an opportunity You have placed before me. Help me to take it!   I do love You so!  In Jesus Name.
