Sound Doctrine

Standard

Devotion:  Titus 1:7-11

We all should be able to exhort other believers in sound doctrine and refute those who contradict.  When we study to show ourselves approved unto God and rightly divide the Word of truth; we are to rebuke one another in love with the truth.

As we see in these verses those who are overseers, pastors, teachers, preachers and those who have leadership positions in church are supposed to be good, sensible, just, devout, and self controlled as they hold fast to God’s faithful Word.

We all know rebellious people, empty talkers, and deceivers that are part of a church.  The Bible says we will know believers by their fruit.  No root.  No fruit.  Wolves in sheep’s clothing.  So many people use the verse “Judge not so that you will not judged.  Truly we must leave judging up to God; however, we can judge someone’s fruit or lack thereof. It is either beautiful and tasty or ugly and dried up.

Sound doctrine lines up with what God says in His Word.  It involves reading the whole context, not taking one verse out of the context.  Precept author and writer Kay Arthur says context is king and truly it is.  It rules out most false impressions or mis-interpretations of God’s Word.

Scripture will never lead you astray because Jesus is the very Word incarnate.  When we hide it in our hearts, it can bring conviction, repentance, and comfort.

If you hear someone preaching and teaching and it doesn’t seem to be sound doctrine; just research it in God’s Word to see if it lines up with His Holy Spirit inspired Word.

Prayer in Motion:

Lord, may I always check out any question I have to make certain it lines  up with Your Word.  In Jesus Name.  Amen.
